Deus ex machina, indeed: Researchers and religious leaders have released findings from a two-month art experiment in which an avatar of Jesus on a computer screen took questions by visitors on faith, morality and modern-day woes, and then offered responses based on Scripture. The computer, notes AP, was tucked into a confessional in a Catholic chapel in Switzerland. Those behind the project said it was largely a success: Visitors often came out moved or deep in thought, and found it easy to use.

Photographer Lauren Greenfield burst on the scene with her 1997 book Fast Forward: Growing Up in the Shadow of Hollywood. Her 2016 book Girl Culture was the culmination of Greenfield’s subsequent work documenting and interviewing teenage girls coming of age. Her latest work, the five-part FX documentary series Social Studies, revisits young people during the era of social media. Snap’s augmented reality glasses have gone through several tech and design iterations, trading whimsical, teen-friendly aesthetic for a black, sharp-angled rectangular look “that would fit right into a cyberpunk ‘80s movie,” notes Wired. The 2024 edition of the Snap Spectacles features smoother curves, but to get them you still have to join Snap’s developer program, which costs $99 per month and requires a year-long commitment. At least they’re available, which Meta’s recently-announced futuristic AR Orion glasses are not.

Japanese American photographer Yasuomi Hashimura died on Nov. 12 after being attacked and pushed to the ground in Midtown Manhattan weeks before. He was 79. Hashimura was walking on Third Avenue on Oct. 22 when a stranger pushed him and he fell backward in the street and hit his head. NYPD soon arrested Corey Smith, 32, and charged him with assault. Smith, who is homeless, was re-arrested and charged with manslaughter after Hashimura died. Now, notes NBC News, Hashimura is being remembered for his lasting impacts on the art world, the Japanese diaspora and more.
