In Focus: Journalist Resists Police Demands for Photos from Riot

A UK photojournalist is resisting demands by police to hand over images he made while covering riots in Rotherham, England, where a mob attacked a hotel accommodating asylum seekers. The journalist, freelancer Joel Goodman, said he feared that turning over the image could put him and other colleagues in danger and infringe media freedom, notes the BBC. “Journalists must not be seen to be police officers. Books: Eugene Richards Tells Stories About America

“When I lived in the Arkansas Delta in the early 1970s I thought of myself as a social worker with a camera. When I took to wandering the streets of my hometown of Dorchester, Massachusetts, in the mid ’70s I thought of myself as a street photographer. In Focus: FotoEvidence Develops Program to Support Ukraine Photo Community

The FotoEvidence Association is partnering with The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers to develop a 3-year program that will support the Ukrainian photo community and contribute to the preservation and restoration of Ukrainian history and culture through photography books documenting the Russian invasion of Ukraine since 2014.
