“Beneath the Surface” is the apt title of the 55th edition of Les Rencontres d’Arles – the storied photography festival under way in Arles, France, through Sept. 29.  “The festival has always defined itself as a ‘revealer’; in this sense, it remains so in its DNA,” says Christoph Wiesner, the festival’s director. State of the Art: Runway Gen-3 Can Make AI Videos of 'Photorealistic Humans'

The AI video race is heating up with a slew of models suddenly being released, notes PetaPixel. Generative AI company Runway has just dropped its latest model, Gen-3 Alpha, which it describes as a “new frontier for high-fidelity, controllable video generation.” The new model was trained on videos and images by an “in-house research team that oversees all of our training” using “curated, internal datasets to train our models,” notes Runway, which promises that Gen-3 Alpa will have a “new set of safeguards” and Content Credentials (C2PA) provenance standards.   Read the full Story >>

Honor Roll: Shot of Resting Bees Wins Insect Photo Contest

A shot of two cuckoo bees sleeping on a blade of grass is the top prize winner of the Royal Entomological Society’s 2023 insect photography competition. “Finding any sleeping invertebrate is always brilliant—but two so close together, well that's like winning the photography lottery," says Yorkshire, UK-based photographer Luke Chambers, who made the winning photograph. Tech News: Fujifilm CEO Says Product Shortages Are Good For Business

Fujifilm recently published financial results that were very positive for the company’s imaging division. What may be of more interest to consumers, however, is a Q&A section published along with the financial report, notes DIY Photography. In it, Fujifilm CEO Teiichi Goto fielded a question about product inventory and seemingly explained why cameras like the  X100VI are out of stock. “[I]t would be quite unfortunate to manufacture too much and lower the price.
