State of the Art: EyeEm Will License Users' Photos to Train AI if They Don't Delete Them

EyeEm, the Berlin-based photo-sharing community acquired last year by Spanish company Freepik after going bankrupt, is now licensing its users’ photos to train AI models. Earlier this month, the company informed users via email that it was adding a new clause to its Terms & Conditions that would grant it the rights to upload users’ content to “train, develop, and improve software, algorithms, and machine-learning models.” At the time of its 2023 acquisition, EyeEm’s photo library included 160 million images, notes TechCrunch.   Read the full Story >>

Exhibitions: Cara Romero 'Speaks' with Purpose

“Most of my work is identity work with contemporary Native peoples and issues…It’s really important for us to tell our own story. I think that’s the biggest thing,” says photographer Cara Romero, a member of the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe who was raised between their reservation in the Mojave Desert and Houston, Texas. Romero’s work is on view at the San Diego Museum of Art through through Oct. 20 in the exhibition “The Artist Speaks: Cara Romero.” The San Diego Union-Tribune  says she speaks with a “clear purpose.”   Read the full Story >>

Tech News: The DJI Mini 4K Drone Is Just $299 and Doesn't Require a License

DJI’s latest Mini drone can capture 4K video at up to 30 fps and 60 fps footage at 2.7K resolution with increased video bitrates up to 100Mbps, which should ensure higher quality video at both settings. But perhaps the best spec is the drone's $299 price tag. Not to be confused with the most expensive  Mini Pro series, the Mini 4K weighs less than 249g, is foldable and requires no FAA registration.
