Auction Action: Christo's "Wrapped Leica" Will Be Up For Sale

The artist Christo wrapped many a thing for his famous large-scale, site-specific environmental installations, from the Pont Neuf  in Paris to islands in Biscayne Bay. in 1994 Christo wrapped up a Leica M4 camera in plastic and twine for the birthday of his photographer, Wolfgang Volz. That same wrapped Leica M4 camera will be listed at the upcoming Wetzlar Camera Auction on October 12, notes Leica Rumors. The starting bid for “Wrapped Leica” will be €40,000, with an estimated selling price of €80,000 – €100,000, but might go for considerably more.   Read the full Story >>

Honor Roll: Winners of the Mobile Photography Awards

Yajun Hu of Shanghai, China, is the grand prize winner of the 13th annual Mobile Photography Awards for a portfolio of images that judges cited for having “a clear and consistent vision.” His mastery, notes the contest, “lies in an ability to harness the interplay of shadows, silhouettes, color, and shapes.” Launched in 2011, the Mobile Photography Awards is the world’s largest and longest-running international competition for smartphone photography. Trending: ICP and Leica Camera Announce the Leica Scholarship

The International Center of Photography in New York and Leica Camera have announced the establishment of the Leica Scholarship at the ICP School, calling it “an exciting new initiative aimed at supporting photographers in their educational pursuits.” The scholarship will provide tuition support to a deserving student applying for a One-Year Certificate Program at the ICP School and aims to elevate under-represented voices in photography. Exhibitions: Francesca Woodman Becomes an Artistic A-Lister
