George Widman, an award-winning Associated Press staff photographer and former director of photography for Gannett newspapers in Utica and Binghamton, N.Y., New York, died on March 8 at his home in Trappe, Pennsylvania, reports The Philadelphia Inquirer. He was 79. Over his career, Widman covered news, politics, sports, and entertainment. In 1988 he was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for his photograph of a homeless man in Philadelphia.

In 1935, the celebrated English photographer Yevonde opened her studio in London's Berkeley Square. There, she created some of her most celebrated bodies of work, noted for its use of delicate colors, surreal arrangements and use of drapery and foliage in portraiture. Now, notes L’Officiel, the model Gigi Hadid and photographer Steven Meisel are paying homage to Yevonde in a new ad campaign for Miu Miu. The Images feature Hadid embracing a 1930s style with a soft color palette and surrealist aesthetic, adds WWD.

Marissa Mayer, who served as president and CEO of Yahoo from 2012 to 2017, started Lumi Labs with former colleague Enrique Munoz Torres in 2018 and now has launched Shine, an app focused on sharing photos directly with your friends and family. Users create curated albums for past, current, and even future events, providing people with a fast way to upload and share photos. Invited group members can see the included pictures and even add their own. But, notes PetaPixel, some critics think the app's design and concept look “straight out of 2009.”

For over a decade, photographer Nona Faustine shot self-portraits in and around New York City, in many instances posing fully nude, apart from a pair of crisp white pumps. Faustine’s photographs immerse viewers into often-forgotten histories, highlighting the city’s historic role in the transatlantic slave trade as well as broader narratives about the perception of Black bodies in the arts, notes CNN. Her series “White Shoes” is on view at the Brooklyn Museum—the first solo show for Faustine, a Brooklyn native.
