A photography firm is being criticized after it offered parents of students in a Scottish school a choice of whether they wanted class photos with or without pupils with complex needs. Parents at Aboyne Primary School in Aberdeenshire complained after being sent a link from the firm, Tempest Photography, notes the BBC. “A photographer is said to have taken separate pictures: one with the children with “additional needs” and one without. Spotlight: Nick Brandt's Unsettling Look at Rising Seas

Although warming global temperatures are causing sea levels to rise around the globe, the Pacific islands are experiencing the change at a more rapid rate than anywhere else. In his new book Sink / Rise,photographer Nick Brandt imagines an unsettling future by depicting people performing everyday tasks on the ocean floor. The images were shot entirely in-camera off the coast of Fiji, as Brandt’s subjects posed while holding their breath. Social News: TikTok Is Close to Launching an Instagram Rival

We noted last month that TikTok might be preparing to take on Instagram with a new photo-sharing app. Now The Verge notes that the new app may be on its way: In a notification sent to users, TikTok said it is launching “a new app for photo posts” called TikTok Notes. A new photo.tiktok.com URL (archived version) spotted by TechCrunch  also briefly appeared online with a prompt to open a post in the TikTok Notes app. Judging by the image included on the site, it looks like you’ll be able to write a caption alongside your photo, too, notes TV.   Read the full Story >>

Honor Roll: FotoEvidence Book Award Returns to Ukraine

During the application process for the 2024 FotoEvidence Book Award, judges reviewed some 7,000 images from more than two hundred photojournalists from 32 countries. The result is the book Ukraine: Love+War (2014-2024), featuring texts and images from more than 90 Ukrainian and international photojournalists documenting the impact of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine during the last decade. Edited by Sara Leen, the book will be released in July. It comes after the acclaimed 2023  FotoEvidence book Ukraine: A War Crime.   Read the full Story >>
