A Washington Post story that broke an unwritten media rule by publishing viscerally bloody images from the scenes of several mass shootings drew sharply diverging reactions, notes the newspaper. Fred Guttenberg, the father of a 14-year-old girl killed by a high school shooter in Parkland, Fla., five years ago, called the graphic photos “traumatic to those of us who have been impacted by gun violence.” Others called the story a necessary “gut punch.” For decades, major news outlets have been reluctant to show graphic photos and video from shootings.

Vital Impacts Friday November 24, 2023
Since launching a few years ago, Vital Impacts has raised more than $2 million for conservation and humanitarian efforts, notes Colossal. The nonprofit’s annual fundraising print sales bring together hundreds of photographers from around the globe who document the natural world. This year’s initiative will support the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, Africa's first indigenous-owned elephant sanctuary. Funds raised will send 13 orphaned elephants back to the wild.
