Legal Brief: OpenAI Disputes Claims that Every ChatGPT Response is a Derivative Work

OpenAI has responded to a pair of nearly identical class-action lawsuits from book authors—including comedian Sarah Silverman—who earlier this summer alleged that ChatGPT was illegally trained on pirated copies of their books. In a motion to dismiss (filed in both lawsuits), OpenAI claimed that the authors "misconceive the scope of copyright, failing to take into account the limitations and exceptions (including fair use) that properly leave room for innovations like the large language models now at the forefront of artificial intelligence," notes Ars Technica.   Read the full Story >>

Can Helmut Newton’s sexist nudes really be fixed by gender-switching? That, notes The Guardian, is what Berlin-based photographer Hani Hape has attempted to do in her new series “Helmut Newton As Seen By Hani Hape.”  Hape has recreated some of Newton’s notorious images by substituting naked men for naked women. “How can it be,” she says, “that the world is full of female nudity and there are hardly any pictures of erotic men? Tech News: Meta's Next Ray-Bans to Stream Video and Let Viewers Talk To You

We noted recently that people who bought Meta’s first-get Ray-Bans Stories smart glasses were by and large underwhelmed. Now, notes PetaPixel, Meta is ready to bring out a new version of the eyewear. According to a report from tech journalist Janko Roettgers in his Lowpassnewsletter, existing models of the glasses will be phased out and the new line will include several new frame options and new features—including support for live streaming.
