State of the Art: Google is First Tech Giant to Test Watermarks to Label AI Images

As images made by artificial intelligence become more advanced, companies are racing to find ways to combat misinformation, notes PetaPixel, which reports that Google is testing a watermark to detect whether an image was made using AI. The digital watermark was created by the tech monolith’s AI branch, DeepMind. Called SynthID, the new tool is still in beta and is being released to a limited number of customers using Imagen, Google’s text-to-image diffusion model.   Read the full Story >>

Art News: Photos of Doomed Arctic Explorers Go to Auction

Images taken in 1845 of British explorer Sir John Franklin and his crew on the ill-fated HMS Erebus and Terror – photos believed lost until recently – are to go under the hammer at Sotheby’s in London on September 21, notes CNN. The set of daguerreotypes commissioned by Franklin’s wife is expected to fetch up to £200,000 ($253,000).
