State of the Art: China Is Using AI Images to Spread Misinformation, Says Microsoft

Chinese operatives have used images made by artificial intelligence to mimic American voters online in an attempt to spread disinformation and provoke discussion on divisive political issues as the 2024 US election approaches, Microsoft analysts warned recently. In the last nine months, the operatives have posted AI-made images depicting the Statute of Liberty and the Black Lives Matter movement on social media, notes CNN. Social News: He Blames AI Bias for Instagram Ban

For months, photographer Merrick Morton battled with Instagram as the platform repeatedly took down his photo archive depicting the lives of cholo and African American street culture in Los Angeles during the 1980s. Then he was notified that his account would no longer be active, and with that, he lost more than 60,000 followers that he had cultivated for over five years. One of the notices Morton received stated that his photos violated its community guidelines on violence or dangerous organizations. Trending: Moroccan Artists Aid Earthquake Victims

“I remember waking up and seeing entire villages flattened to rubble,” says Samira Larouci, speaking about the earthquake that devastated Morocco on Sept. 8, killing more than 2,000 people. Larouci and Moroccan photographers  Anass Ouaziz and Ismail Elaaddioui have founded Artists For Morocco, a collective of some 25 established and emerging Moroccan photographers and artists to aid victims of the earthquake, notes Dazed.
