The San Diego Museum of Art and the Museum of Photographic Arts will merge on July 1, reports The Sand Diego Union-Tribune. MOPA’s collection of more than 9,000 images by 850 artists and 22,000 books and related materials will be added to SDMA’s own photography collection. MOPA’s two-story, 33,000-square-foot museum space—located in the historic Casa de Balboa building just across the Plaza de Panama from SDMA—will remain open through at least 2024. The move comes after MOPA saw declining revenues, despite an increasing number of visitors.

After five years, MoMA’s New Photography series returns this year with a focus on artists working in relation to a specific art scene across the globe. The New Photography 2023 exhibition features the work of seven international artists—Kelani Abass, Akinbode Akinbiyi, Yagazie Emezi, Amanda Iheme, Abraham Oghobase, Karl Ohiri, and Logo Oluwamuyiwa—with ties to the art community flourishing in Lagos, Nigeria. Giggster, an online platform for renting studio space, has acquired Imaging Resource from the BeBop Corporation, PetaPixel reports. Image Resource was being offered as part of a bundle with Outdoor Photographer, Digital Photo Pro, Digital Photo,and the Image Creators Network for $500,000 from the jazz and performing arts-focused BeBop, which listed them for sale in mid-May, after acquiring the publications in March from Madavor Media. The banner advertising the sale has been removed from Outdoor Photographer‘s website, likely pointing to Giggster’s acquisition of the entire group of websites, adds PP.
