Though Russian President Vladimir Putin reigns unopposed, he still has to manage public perceptions, and with sweeping battlefield victories elusive, he has mobilized vast resources to try to rebuild the ravaged city of Mariupol, aiming to show it as a symbol of the benefits of Russian occupation. For that reason, Russia allows journalists access to the city, notes The New York Times, which has a report featuring images from a photojournalist based in Russia who traveled to Mariupol in March and interviewed residents.

While several tools in the app are locked behind a paywall, the developer tells PetaPixel that the goal was to make it usable without paying—a pointed comparison to apps like VSCO that have transitioned to paid models. The app doesn’t have a capture system; edits are performed one by one as they are imported. It also doesn’t keep a library of edits, so users will have to remember to export their photos before importing a new one.

A German stock photographer who asked to get his images removed from a dataset used to train AI image generators got more than a firm refusal. He also an invoice for $979 for filing an unjustified copyright claim, notes Vice. The photographer, Robert Kneschke, found out in February that his photographs were being used to train AI through a site called Have I Been Trained? The website allowed him to search through LAION-5B, a dataset of over 5.8 billion images owned by the non-profit Large-scale Artificial Intelligence Open Network. The dataset has been used by companies like Stability AI.
