Lawmakers in Japan are introducing the country’s first laws against taking sexually exploitative photos or videos of others without consent, notes the BBC. The bill against "photo voyeurism" would prohibit acts such as upskirting and secret filming of sexual acts. Until now, such criminal cases had to be prosecuted under local prefecture laws, which vary in scope. The bill, part of a wider overhaul of Japan's laws on sex crimes, prohibits the taking, distribution and or possession of photographs of someone's genitals without their consent. It will also expand the definition of rape.

Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Monday May 15, 2023
Cameroonian artist Samuel Fosso is the winner of the £30,000 (about $37,400) Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize for 2023. The award recognizes Fosso’s retrospective exhibition, “Samuel Fosso,” at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris, which traced a career spanning almost 50 years. One of Africa’s most important living photographers and contemporary artists, Fosso photographs himself in the style of leading historical figures including Martin Luther King and Angela Davis, notes The Guardian.

Google is outfitting its Bard chatbot with some big upgrades, with an assist from Adobe, notes Mashable: Bard now supports multimodal search, meaning it's capable of generating images from a text prompt. Image generation is supported by Adobe's Firefly generative AI system, which is currently in beta. Firefly was trained using legally owned images, unlike some competing models trained with stolen content, adds PetaPixel. Adobe’s Content Authenticity Initiative will also be incorporated into Bard, ensuring transparency with AI-generated content within the chatbot.
