YouTuber Trevor Jacob has pleaded guilty to concealing evidence and obstructing a federal investigation by deliberately crashing his airplane and hiding the wreckage as part of a ploy to attract YouTube views, reports The Washington Post. He could face up to 20 years in prison. Jacob flew over Los Padres National Forest in November 2021, cameras mounted to the single-propeller craft, when he announced he was having engine trouble, swung the door open and bailed. He used a selfie stick to record his parachute drop while the plane filmed itself crashing into the California wilderness. He later posted a video titled “I Crashed My Airplane.”

Photographer Michael Christopher Brown’s latest photography project has ignited debate in the photo industry over the use of AI in photojournalism: On the AI reportage platform Airlab, Brown describes the new project, titled “90 Miles,” as a “post-photography AI reporting illustration experiment exploring historical events and realities of Cuban life that have motivated Cubans to cross the ’90 miles’ of ocean separating Havana from Florida.” He tells Blind his intent was to “explore, analyze and discuss what AI may enable for reportage illustration.”

Meta has announced a new open-source AI model called “ImageBind” that links together multiple streams of data, including text, audio, visual data, temperature, and movement readings. The model is only a research project at this point, but it points to a future of generative AI systems that can create immersive, multisensory experiences, notes The Verge. The intriguing AI model builds on how AI image generators like Midjourney, DALL-E and Stable Diffusion work, adds PetaPixel: These systems link together text and images so the AI can understand patterns in the visual data.
