Tech News: Sony Launches Retinal Projection Kit for the Visually Impaired

Sony has announced a retinal project camera system to help photographers with visual impairments, notes Imaging Resource. The Sony DSC-HX99 RNV is a kit that combines Sony's HX99 compact camera with a QD Laser Retissa Neoviewer—a specially designed viewfinder that uses laser retinal projection to project a digital image directly onto a photographer's retina. The kit  is a compact, travel-friendly camera that covers everything from wide-angle to super-telephoto focal length (24-720 mm equivalent), adds DIY Photography.   Read the full Story >>

Social News: TikTok Bans Deepfakes of Nonpublic Figures

As the prospect of a US TikTok ban continues to grow, the video app has refreshed its content moderation policies. The rules on what content can be posted and promoted are largely unchanged but include new restrictions on sharing AI deepfakes, notes The Verge. The company now says all realistic AI generated and edited content must be “clearly disclosed” as such, either in the video caption or as an overlaid sticker. TikTok says it will not allow any synthetic media “that contains the likeness of any real private figure” or that shows a public figure endorsing a product or violating the app’s other policies.   Read the full Story >>

In Focus: 'The Iraq I Never Knew'

Photojournalist Salwan Georges was 8 years old when his family left Iraq and resettled in the U.S.; recently, at age 32, he visited the country of his birth. “So much of Iraq has changed over the years — destroyed, rebuilt, reimagined. But the places I called home are still standing, as if they were waiting for me to say a final goodbye,” he writes at The Washington Post, adding, “I realize now that my trip back was about having the opportunity to say goodbye to the past.
