Sky Watch: Prepare for Two Solar Eclipses in 2023

It’s a big year for solar eclipses—and the photographers who want to photograph them. People in Australia and New Zealand will get to see a rare hybrid total solar eclipse in April. The path of totality will pass over the North West Cape, a remote peninsula of Western Australia. Meanwhile, people in the United States will have the opportunity to see an annular or “ring of fire” eclipse in October. The annularity will be visible along a narrow path that crosses the US from Oregon to Texas. It will then pass over Mexico’s Yucatán peninsula and parts of Central America, Colombia, and Brazil.   Read the full Story >>

Spotlight: Sean Scheidt Processes Grief in 'Time Spent'

Photographer Sean Scheidt’s project “Time Spent” began when he decided to document his relatives to preserve memories of their time together. But when tragedy struck his working-class family in Dundalk, Md., Scheidt found himself stricken with a grief difficult to put into words, notes The Washington Post. Instead, he used his skills as a photographer to capture his feelings in singular moments of loss, joy and hardship. “It’s about coming to terms with the stages of life,” he says. Media Watch: BeBop Buys Madavor Media, Including Outdoor Photographer

Madavor Media, which owns multiple photography-centric publications including Imaging Resource, Digital Photo Pro, and Outdoor Photographer, has been acquired by music and theater-focused media platform the BeBop Channel, reports PetaPixel. The purchase of Mavador by BeBop closed last month and all of Mavador’s many publications are now under new ownership. BeBop’s focus on theater and music seems to put the multiple photography publications the corporation now owns in a strange spot, adds PP.   Read the full Story >>

National Geographic explores this population milestone in its April issue, tasking photographers Justin Jin and Yagazie Emezi with visualizing the effects of population change in China and Nigeria. How did they approach the abstract idea? By capturing individual stories in lands they each know well.
