After more than a decade of showcasing San Francisco’s most extensive photography collection on the city’s waterfront, Pier 24 Photography has announced it will permanently close once its lease with the Port expires in July 2025. The decision also comes as the result of a lengthy effort to extend the museum’s lease with the Port, reports SF Gate. “Rather than operating with a significantly higher annual budget, we believe that money could be better utilized by local organizations,” says Andrew Pilara of the Pilara Foundation, which runs the museum.

Travel Photographer of the Year Friday February 3, 2023
Slovenian photographer Matjaz Krivic takes the top prize in the 2022 Travel Photographer of the Year competition for a portfolio of images that includes photos featuring one of the world’s last two remaining Northern White rhinos and her keeper in Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya. Krivic’s winning collection also includes images of the erupting Cumbre Vieja volcano on the island of La Palma. This year’s contest drew nearly 20,000 images by both professional and amateur photographers across 154 countries.

Who needs food photographers anymore? PetaPixel reports that the first AI image generator for food photos has now been launched. Called Lunchbox, the free and publicly-available AI text-to-image generator is being aimed at restaurants that need to quickly create images of food for their social media pages, websites, and menus. Users can input the food they want to be pictured in the “Search” field and can also request Lunchbox to create an image of a person eating a salad.
