The Rhode Island School of Design said that it will no longer participate in the closely watched annual rankings of colleges and universities by U.S. News & World Report, notes The Boston Globe. The Providence school’s president, Crystal Williams, said that the list’s criteria do not match the school’s values. “We eschew participation in systems that strongly rely on exclusion and inequity,” she said in a memo. RISD is the latest school to pull out of the rankings, joining several high-ranking law and medical schools that have opted out of sending their data to the American media company as of last year, adds Hyperallergic.

In a dire time of war, the search for romantic connects persists: On Valentine’s Day, NPR featured stories of love in Ukraine, featuring photos from Natalie Keyssar. Among the couples profiled: Lilya Lohnya, 22, and Maksim Manakhov, 23. When the war began a year ago, Lilya called her friend Maksim, an Azerbaijani student who'd come to Kharkiv to attend university. “He made a couple of jokes to calm her down, which only served to make her furious. Sitting on their bed in the apartment they now share, they laugh at the memory,” notes Keyssar.

Instagram is expanding access to a new monetization feature called Gifts, allowing more creators across the U.S. to take part, and allowing Instagram to better compete with TikTok, notes TechCrunch. The feature lets fans provide a favorite creator with direct monetary support in the form of themed virtual gifts. The gifts are purchased in the Instagram app using the virtual currency Stars. The system isn’t yet available to all creators, however: Users can can check their eligibility on their Professional Dashboard.
