Bloomberg recently reported that Instagram now has 2 billion monthly active users around the world, closing in on the 2.96 billion users of Facebook. But many IG users, particularly photographers, have been unhappy with the app's recent prioritization of Reels video over photos. Now Instagram head Adam Mosseri says that Reels and photos will have the same reach on the app now after the company “rebalanced things” in the last month, notes PetaPixel. Mosseri made the claim during his weekly Ask Me Anything session on Instagram, noting that the site has been working to correct the imbalance.

Just after finishing high school, Mike Coots‘ life changed forever. The Hawaii native was surfing with friends when a tiger shark attacked him, resulting in the loss of his right leg. The Verge calls Fujifilm’s new X-T5 mirrorless camera “a bit of an apology letter from Fujifilm to its fans, who disliked the video-focused features creeping into their favorite photo camera line.” While the X-T5 is smaller and lighter than the previous model, it borrows the 40-megapixel APS-C sensor, fifth-gen X Processor, subject-detection autofocus, and seven-stop in-body image stabilization from the pro-oriented X-H2. It’s also the first Fuji camera to feature the new Pixel Shift Multi-Shot mode for 160MP stills, adds DIY Photography.

The worst drought to hit the area in four decades, ongoing conflict, political instability, and soaring food prices driven up by the war in Ukraine are bringing hunger and food insecurity to critical levels to countries on the easternmost part of the African continent, notes photographer Lynsey Addario at National Geographic. “More than 37 million people—including an estimated seven million children—are on the verge of famine, according to various aid organizations,” Addario writes in a report featuring her images.
