Legal Brief: Texas Sues Google for Collecting Biometric Data From Photos

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxtpn has filed a privacy lawsuit against Google accusing the company of collecting Texans’ facial and voice recognition information without their explicit consent. Paxton alleges that Google collected millions of faces and voiceprints through several of its services including Google Photos, which allows people to search for photos they took of a particular person, as well as Google Assistant and Nest Hub Max. Texas introduced its biometric privacy law in 2009, with Illinois and Washington passing similar laws around the same time.   Read the full Story >>

After fading in popularity, film photography is seeing a major comeback fueled by younger generations and social media, notes NBC News in a recent story. To underscore the trend, producers shot the segment on film—the first time the network has used analog technology in more than 40 years. Honor Roll: Africa in Focus Contest's Touching Winner

The top prize in the 2022 Wilderness Safaris Africa in Focus photo awards goes to Polish photographer Tomasz Szpila for a touching image of a touch: Szpila captured the moment when a seven-day-old mountain gorilla was tenderly touched by his  older brother. “The birth of the mountain gorilla is an important issue both for the family group and for the entire population of this species,” notes Wildlife Safaris. Art News: CNN Pulls Plug on Its NFT Project, Angering Investors

In further proof that the NFT craze has died down, CNN has given up on Vault, the company's NFT marketplace, notes Mashable. The move comes just one year after CNN launched the Web3 project. “Sort of like NBA Top Shot except for media nerds instead of basketball nerds, it minted CNN reports of key events or artistic interpretations inspired by them, creating digital collectibles,” adds The Verge.
