In a new blog post, photographer and Lensrentals editor Zach Sutton explains some of the most common ways that cameras and lenses are damaged. First item on his list: water. “Most water...has minerals, salts, and dirt in it – as do most electronics. Spotlight: SF Photographer Captures Rare 'Fogbow'

When Stuart Berman headed out for a hike in the Marin Headlands of the Bay Area early one recent morning, he hoped to show an out-of-town friend the Golden Gate Bridge, shrouded in fog. Instead, notes SF Gate, they encountered a ghostly orb floating high above them.  “It was breathtaking,” says Berman, vice president at a consulting firm and a photographer. The apparition that emerged, spanning about 75 to 100 yards wide, was a rarely seen weather phenomenon known as a fogbow, white rainbow, or ghost rainbow.   Read the full Story >>

In Focus: Photographer Gets $350,000 Payout After Sustaining Injury During Protests

A photographer is in line for a $350,000 payout from Denver Police after he nearly lost his finger while covering the George Floyd protests in 2020, notes PetaPixel. Trevor Hughes sued the City of Denver in a federal court after a projectile struck his ring finger as he took photos of the unrest. Hughes, an avid photographer and guitar player, said he filed the lawsuit because he wants accountability. “To have a just society, I think there has to be justice,” he noted. Andy McNulty, the attorney who filed the suit, said not enough police officers have been disciplined or held accountable for their actions during the protests.   Read the full Story >>

AI art generation platforms are all the rage, but some people have apparently had enough of them: Business Insider reports that artists are saying that the machines are copying their styles to make thousands of new images. “I feel like something's happening that I can't control," says Greg Rutkowski, an artist known for creating fantasy scenes of dragons and epic battles that fantasy games like Dungeons and Dragons have used.
