Felix Schoeller Photo Awards Monday October 17, 2022
For the sixth time since 2013, the Felix Schoeller Group is inviting professional photographers worldwide to apply for the Felix Schoeller Photo Award 2023. Professional photographers are invited to apply in three categories: Portrait; Photojournalism; and Sustainability. Prizes of 5,000 euros (roughly equivalent in dollars) will be awarded in each of the three competition categories. The category “Best Work by an Emerging Photographer” will recognize new talent in photography. The deadline for entries is January 15, 2023.

“I live in Suffolk County, New York, the Lyme capital of the world. It is where Lyme was originally named ‘Montauk Knee’ disease,” notes Dr. John Allocca at LymeDisease.org, in an account of his own Lyme disease miseries, including knee pain, headaches, and fatigue. “One day, I got a flash of inspiration to begin a ‘vision quest’ using photography, which has been my passionate hobby for more than 60 years,” he writes. “I’m not sure how much this helped my Lyme disease physically, but it helped me to deal with it emotionally.”

Eight months into the war in Ukraine, St. Nicholas Cathedral School in Chicago has become a hub for displaced students, and with good reason, notes The Washington Post: Roughly 80 percent of students at the school are of Ukrainian descent; several teachers speak Ukrainian, as do many of the students, who help translate for their new peers.
