Industry News: Shutterstock Acquires Splash Celebrity News Agency

Stock giant Shutterstock has acquired Splash News, an entertainment news agency known for its network of paparazzi photographers. The move brings 27 million videos and images to the Shutterstock archive, notes PetaPixel. Launched in 1990, Splash News was once the largest celebrity photo agency in the world. The company was sold to Corbis in 2011 by founders Kevin Smith and Gary Morgan but later went through several ownerships. Splash currently has a network of over 4,000 photographers globally.   Read the full Story >>

Honor Roll: The Summit of Mountain Adventure Photos

International Mountain Photo Contest   Friday June 10, 2022

Mountain adventure photography reaches new heights in the International Mountain Photo Contest, which has just named its 2022 winners. The contest, organized by the Club Vasco de Camping Elkartea mountaineering club in Spain, named 20 finalist images culled from entries from 60 countries. The top prize goes to Yhabril Moro, from the Spanish province of Biscay, for a photo of a skier seen in mid air at sunset. Moro used an off-camera flash to illuminate the rider and shot with a Sony Alpha 1 and a 12-24mm lens with a shutter speed of 1/2000 sec.   Read the full Story >>

What We Learned This Week: Minneapolis Settles Lawsuit with Blinded Photographer; Man Accused of Assaulting Photographer on Jan. 6

The City of Minneapolis has agreed to a settlement in a lawsuit brought by independent photojournalist Linda Tirado, who was struck by a rubber bullet amid protests in May 2020 and permanently blinded in one eye.
