Small Russian drones are being used to direct laser-guided artillery rounds in Ukraine. But the drones are not as advanced as you might expect, notes Forbes. Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has released a video showing one of the drones being disassembled. Inside, it turns out, is a Canon EOS Rebel T6i (AKA 750D), a DSLR that came out in 2015 The video shows a soldier sitting next to what it says is a Russian Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicle that crashed in Ukraine. The winners of the Sony World Photography Awards for 2022 have been announced across all categories, and the Photographer of the Year title goes to Adam Ferguson for his project “Mexicans.” The series features black-and-white self-portraits taken by migrants in Mexico as they waited to enter the United States. Ferguson set up each photo by mounting a medium-format camera on a tripod with a cable release and stepping away. The Australian photographer receives a $25,000 cash prize. Spending a weekend in Paris with the creative team of Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb might offer some insights to those questions. Doris Derby, an educator, artist, activist and civil rights era photographer who turned her camera away from the violence of the times to capture the quieter moments of the movement, and in so doing documented the transformation of Black life in rural Mississippi, died on March 28 in Atlanta, reports The New York Times. She was 82. Images of children blasted by fire hoses and peaceful protesters set upon by dogs and policemen drew the Bronx-born Derby — newly graduated from Hunter College in Manhattan — to Jackson, Miss., in the fall of 1963.
