Tech News: Nikon's New $6,500 800mm F6.3 VR S Super Telephoto Lens

Nikon’s newly announced Nikkor Z 800mm F6.3 VR S super telephoto lens is roughly 48 percent lighter and 16 percent shorter than its F-mount counterpart, thanks to the use of a Phase Fresnel element, notes DP Review. Autofocus is driven via a stepping motor and the vibration reduction optical image stabilization compensates for up to five stops (5.5 stops when used with Synchro VR with the Z9). See It Now: Rescued Film Shows Life Before Chernobyl Disaster

Thirty years after families in northern Ukraine were forced to abandon their homes following the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986, Maxim Dondyuk began collecting their things. The Ukrainian documentary photographer has rescued some 15,000 artifacts from villages in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, photographs and film negatives, which he has restored for his series "Untitled Project from Chernobyl.” The rescued images depict the lives of the residents who once lived there, notes CNN.   Read the full Story >>

Social News: Creators Say Instagram Is Cutting Reels Payouts

Creators making money using Instagram Reels say their payouts have been slashed in recent weeks and target metrics for monetization have ballooned, according to the Financial Times. Payments are down as much as 70 percent per view and videos need millions more views for creators to get paid, notes Verve Times. The Reels Play Bonus Program, announced in July, offers financial rewards to creators who post on Reels, Instagram’s TikTok-style short-form video clone. Payouts ranged from $600 to as much as $35,000 if videos hit a target view count, but creators expressed confusion over how payments and goals were determined.   Read the full Story >>
