Politico is demanding Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) stop using a photo taken last year for a publication it owns on his campaign merchandise. The photo, taken by E&E News photographer Francis Chung, shows Hawley walking to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, with his fist raised in the air. The image was shared widely by critics who interpreted it as a sign of Hawley’s approval for the protesters who had gathered in the area before a riot took place at the Capitol later that day. Last month, Hawley's reelection campaign began selling ceramic coffee mugs emblazoned with the photo and the words "Show Me Strong" for $20. Read the full Story >>

A series of original NASA photographs from the Apollo missions sold recently for a total of 1.16 million Danish crowns ($171,831) in an auction in Copenhagen, reports CNN. The 74 privately-owned photographs from the Apollo 8-17 missions included a famous image of Buzz Aldrin's moon walk during the first manned lunar landing in July 1969, which sold for 52,000 crowns ($7,703). The photograph of Aldrin, taken by Neil Armstrong, was featured on the cover of National Geographic and Life magazines in 1969. Read the full Story >>

Instagram has quietly shut down two more of its apps: Boomerang and Hyperlapse have been removed from app stores, and you can no longer find them as standalone apps, notes DIY Photography. Together with shutting down the IGTV app, the new move is a step toward Meta’s focus on Instagram reels. Photographer Heidi Levine, a 30-year veteran of war zones like Iraq and Syria, told CNN's John King on Thursday that fellow photographers in Ukraine are in shock that "what we're seeing is actually happening. I mean, how could this be happening in 2022?" It just feels like "we have learned absolutely nothing from history," she said. Levine has been on assignment for The Washington Post in Kyiv.
