Social News: Instagram Chronology Feed Returns

As it promised to do, Instagram is bringing back chronology feeds. Instagram head Adam Mosseri recently announced that the platform is rolling out changes that will let users choose between three different feeds. Two options, called Favorites and Following, sort content chronologically, while a third "home" option offers the current algorithmically sorted feed. Addendum: The History of Snowflake Photography

Question: Who was the first person to photograph a single snowflake? Answer: Wilson A. Bentley, who used a microscope with his camera—plus years of trial and error—to get a photo of an individual snowflake in 1885. A Vermont resident, Bentley was a pioneer in "photomicrography," the photographing of very small objects. He would sit out in the cold for hours until he could catch a snowflake, then handled it with a feather to carefully place it under the lens of his microscope to be photographed, notes The Smithsonian.   Read the full Story >>

Trending Paolo Roversi Portraits Re-Write a Royal Narrative

To mark her 40th birthday, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, wife of Prince William, mother of a future king, recently unveiled three new portraits, all made by fashion photographer Paolo Roversi, known for his soft-focus style and high romanticism. They “are neither aggressively modern nor stiffly old-fashioned, though in their composition they seem made for a mood board,” notes The New York Times. In Focus: NYC Changes Policy for Getting Press Credentials

The NPPA reminds photojournalists working in New York City that the process for obtaining NYC press credentials has changed. As of January 20, the New York Police Department will no longer be handling press credentials. This duty was transferred to the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME). “Only MOME is authorized to issue, suspend, or revoke New York City press credentials. All Press Cards will expire on January 15 of every odd year and will need to be renewed,” noted the NPPA.   Read the full Story >>
