In May 2020, acclaimed photographer Firooz Zahedi filed suit in California against Miramax, the film company founded by disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, alleging that it used an image he shot for the poster of Pulp Fiction on “untold thousands of consumer products.” Zaheda claimed that violated a contract that limited use to promoting the film at the time of its release in 1994. But Justice Dolly Gee dismissed the suit, ruling that Zahedi waited too long to file his copyright infringement suit. Zahedi was initially paid $10,000 to take the photo of actress Uma Thurman seductively smoking a cigarette, notes the New York Post. Read the full Story >>

In 2017, the French magazine L’Officiel announced the creation of an American edition, L’Officiel USA, promising coverage of high fashion, art and travel through an international lens. But now, notes The New York Times, the City of New York has filed suit against the magazine for failing to pay freelancers on time, or, adds WWD, at all. NYC filed the suit on behalf of writers, producers, photographers, illustrators and more who said they were not paid for their work. Under the law, New York freelancers are allowed to pursue late payments by filing complaints with the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, notes DIY Photography. Read the full Story >>
