About

AI-AP.com is the online home for our annual competitions (Call for Entries), juried image collections (The Archive), events (The Party, BIG TALK and Illustration Week).

Call for Entries

American Illustration and American Photography (AI-AP), the leading hardcover, juried annuals, offer an expansive view with hundreds of images selected by an outstanding jury from thousands of entries submitted to our two annual competitions. Regarded by creative professionals as the “books of record” and best sources for today’s top image-makers, American Illustration and American Photography are the premier showcases for editorial, advertising, book, poster, design, animation, fine art, unpublished and student work created by established, emerging and student illustrators and photographers. Each book also celebrates the creatives, publications and schools who assigned and utilized the winning images. See more.

Latin American Fotografía y Ilustración, judged by an international jury of top creatives, honor the best work being created today by ilustradores and fotografos latinoamericanos and work created for Latin clients by international artists, in a cross-cultural exchange of art and ideas.

International Motion Art Awards celebrates the moving image in all media. In the spirit of AI-AP, the artist is recognized for outstanding work that moves in film, animation, advertising, branding, editorial, books, videos, games, special effects and includes type, logo and design motion graphics.

Image Collections

The AI-AP Archive is a comprehensive gallery of current and past jury-selected images searchable by volume, artist, publication, creative, client, representative, school and subject. All winning images include direct contact info and representatives for the artists. Collections include winning images that were “Selected” to appear in the books and those that were “Chosen” to appear only on the website. A one-of-kind who’s who of the industry’s most talented artists and creatives.

Selected and Chosen Images

Winning images are presented in two groups. “Selected” images were nominated in the first round of judging and then received a majority vote or better from the jury. They appear in the book and website. “Chosen” images were nominated by the jury and then received at least two votes. They appear only on the website.

Events

The Party, held each year during the second week of November, is the most anticipated networking event of the year that brings photographers, illustrators, art directors and all creatives together to celebrate the launch of the new annual books and honor the winning AI-AP, Latin American and Motion images and artists.

The BIG TALK symposium brings the juries and designers from the recent AI-AP, Latin American and Motion competitions together for a series of panel discussions with an inside look at the judging process and book production and design. BIG TALK is held each year in conjunction with the The Party in November.

Illustration Week in NYC was created in 2003 in response to the ever-growing attendance and focus the annual AI-AP Party brought to the industry during the second week in November. As more and more individuals and groups joined in by independently scheduling events with the AI-AP Party as the centerpiece, the “week” was coined and promoted. Illustration Week continued over time with the AIGA Draw seminar, Bernstein & Andriulli exhibitions, Parsons Illustration Symposium, the Society of Illustrators judging and countless artist book launches, exhibitions and events. In 2010 Illustration Week received its first mayoral proclamation from the city of New York.
