Tech News: The Sony a7R V Uses an AI Processor to Track Subjects

Sony’s newly announced a7R V keeps its predecessor’s 61-megapixel full-frame sensor but adds a dedicated AI processing unit allowing the camera’s autofocus to detect and distinguish subjects like cars, trains, planes, animals, and insects, notes The Verge. Sony says the a7R V uses “human pose estimation” to see 20 different points in the body and anticipate and track where the eye of a human is supposed to be. There’s also an improved in-body image stabilization system with up to eight stops of compensation, 8K video recording at 24p / 25p with a 1.2x crop, and a redesigned four-axis articulating rear display. Legal Brief: Meta Defeats Photographer's Lawsuit Over Facebook Embedding, For Now

A Meta Platforms Inc feature that allows users to embed Facebook content on other websites does not violate photographers' copyrights, a San Francisco federal judge ruled last week. What We're Reading: The Strange Battle Over a Legacy of Pilates Photos

A social-media dispute over the legacy of Joseph Pilates, inventor of the Pilates exercise program, has moved to federal court, notes The New York Times, At issue is who has the right to share certain vintage photographs of Pilates, who died in 1967 at age 83, as well as key materials related to his highly specific teachings. Sean P. Gallagher, a physical therapist who runs a Pilates teacher training business, says he is the rightful owner of the copyright to more than 1,000 photographs that once belonged to Pilates and his wife, Clara. Exhibitions: Chris Makos's "Fringe" Art

Through Nov. 19, the Fahey/Klein Gallery in Los Angeles presents the exhibition “Chris Makos: Fringe,”  a retrospective featuring an array of works, including unique photographs of legendary cultural icons. Makos’s personal relationship with Andy Warhol gave him a unique access to people shaping culture in the 1960s and 1970s; his visual diary represents “a co-mingling of New York’s uptown and downtown worlds, celebrity culture, and the east coast art scene spanning over decades,” notes the gallery.
