Photographer Alex Masi has won the 2012 FotoEvidence Book Award for his documentary project focusing on residents of Bhopal, India as they continue to struggle with the environmental and health effects of the Union Carbide plant disaster from 28 years ago. The FotoEvidence group, which cited Masi’s “courage and commitment in the pursuit of social justice,” will publish the work as a book, Bhopal Second Disaster, and show it along with work from four finalists at the VII Photo Agency Gallery in New York City.
