Jazz great John Coltrane’s death in 1967 devastated the music world. In San Francisco, Franzo and Marina King turned their jazz club into a temple.The Saint John Will-I-Am Coltrane African Orthodox Church, as it is known today, recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, which, notes The New Yorker, is commemorated in a book of photographs and essays titled A Love Supreme: 50 Years of the Coltrane Church. The New Yorker takes you inside the church with images by photographer Carlos Chavarría.
