In Focus: Indigenous Brazilians Trying to Save Their Land

Citing statistics from NGO Global Witness, photographer Pablo Albarenga notes that more than 200 Brazilians lost their lives in 2017 while trying to protect their communities from mining, agro-business and other projects they see as threatening their existence. The Washington Post features his ambitious and ongoing project “Seeds of Resistance,” which highlights the plight of indigenous land defenders through composite images featuring land defenders and the areas they are trying to protect.
