On View: The Unseen American Work of Werner Bischof

By David Schonauer   Tuesday June 18, 2019

Werner Bischof, the first non-founding member of the Magnum photography collective, criss-crossed the United States during the 1950s, photographing everything from cigarette advertisements and the bright lights of Broadway to a worker scaling the Golden Gate Bridge. The images were never published during Bischof’s lifetime. Now, notes the British Journal of Photography, the “U.S.A.” series is on view for the first time at the David Hill Gallery in London (through July 26).
