Big money, lawsuits, lice panics and monstrous little pyromaniacs. Such are the realities and itchy dangers of the school photography business, notes The New York Times. The industry’s 600-pound gorilla is Lifetouch, the school-picture behemoth that photographs roughly half of America’s 50 million schoolchildren every fall. Last year, Shutterfly, the online photo printing giant, acquired Lifetouch for $825 million, unlocking cheaper production costs and a more seamless online sales machine, notes The Times.
