Art News: Man Ray Sets a $3-Million Record in Paris

By David Schonauer   Tuesday November 14, 2017

Earlier this fall we noted that Christie’s in Paris was planning  a sale of Man Ray’s photograph “Noir et Blanche, 1926,” with an estimated price of €1million to €1.5 million) (about $1.1m to $1.7m). Now Art Market Monitor reports that the art work, from the private collection of Thomas Koerfer, sold for €2,688,750 ($3,120,658). The sale, to a phone bidder after a robust bidding battle, established a new auction record for a photograph by Man Ray, a new record for any photograph sold in France and a new world auction record for any classic photograph, noted Christie’s. Read about the photograph at AnOther.
