Closeup: Meridith Kohut On Covering Venezuela's Collapse

In 2016, The New York Times International Picture Editor David Furst called Venezuela-based photojournalist Meridith Kohut and put her on a big story in just one sentence: “I think there’s more there.” In a video at Image Republiq, Kohut talks about her work in documenting the nation’s economic and political instability — coverage that won her the 2016 Overseas Press Club’s award for Feature Photography and the 2017 The Chris Hondros Fund Award. “You can tell that they’re really struggling,” says Kohut of Venezula’s people.
