Art News: Auction record for Mapplethorpe at Christie's

Is the photo market continuing to surge? Christie’s kicked off London’s Frieze week auctions on Oct. 3 with a mix of Modern design and photography, highlighted by a record-price paid for a Robert Mapplethorpe image: The artist’s 1988 “Self-Portrait” sold for £450,000, or £548,750 with fees ($591,560.40 or $721,375.05), reports The Art Newspaper.
