Starting today, the Olana State Historic Site, in Hudson, New York, will host the third annual Creating Landscapes within the Landscape event.

A group of 30 artists from New York State and New England have been invited to paint here for three days, from the same points of view of the artist who built this magnificent home high above the Hudson River.

You can spend the day on Thursday and Friday enjoying the beautiful grounds of the Olana Historic Site, home and studio of Frederic Edwin Church, one of the major figures in the Hudson River School of landscape painting, and see the artists creating original works of art, from 7am to dusk.

On Saturday, you can meet the artists as they will bring their finished, but still wet canvases, to the Wagon House Education Center, for an afternoon exhibition, reception and auction, with live music and refreshments starting at 4 pm. Information.

Admission: $10 public/CCCA Members/Olana Members. Includes cocktails, hors d’oeuvres & auction paddle. Hosted by The Olana Partnership and the Columbia County Council on the Arts. Directions.

Continuing at Olana for the month of October is the Make Your Own Self-Portrait in 3-D program. Join Director of Education Amy Hufnagel on site after seeing the exhibit Historic Artists’ Homes & Studios in the Coach House at Olana. This exhibit teaches about historic artist houses nationwide that are open to the public. Drop-in anytime between 1pm and 4pm every Saturday in October. Information.

In Hudson, you can view the 20th Anniversary CCCA Members Exhibition at the Pocketbook Factory MuseumInformation.
